Jon 4th post... I think?

Okay for my weekly drawing I did two mock-ups (kinda) for our current project. I decided to use Caravaggio s "The Musicians" for my interpretation  I'm still figuring out the composition however I wanted to make sure I was able to work with the materials. The act on conveying information through line by sewing or embroidering through fabric is something that I think will be a interesting vehicle for a contemporary drawing. I'm not a stranger to fabric and sewing however this is the first time I have worked with the materials in this way. Often woman are associated with such crafts and this is a fact that I am aware of and speak about through my work and this assignment in cultural and societal ways.  For instance soft sculpture which is something I have done before with this approach in mind in relation to my own social class and identity as an artist. The final product will be larger and will include texture and patterns with fabric I will also use yarn for the larger drawing.

I ran across this and thought this was interesting however it doesn't relate to my work directly but nonetheless interesting. In 1996, Tracey Emin lived in a locked room in a gallery for fourteen days, with nothing but a lot of empty canvases and art materials, in an attempt to reconcile herself with paintings. Viewed through a series of wide-angle lenses embedded in the walls, Emin could be watched, stark naked, shaking off her painting demons. Starting by making images like the artists she really admired (i.e. Egon Schiele, Edvard Munch, Yves Klein), Emin’s two-week art-therapy session resulted in a massive outpouring of autobiographical images, and the discovery of a style all her own. The room was extracted in its entirety, and now exists as an installation work."
