I've been doing some sketches from photographs of the roof of my old apartment which I have both wonderful and horrible memories of ... I hope to turn these drawings into anxiety provoking paintings eventually. The most complete of the sketches has a little monarch butterfly in it and I've had some strange encounters with monarch butterflies recently...
I don't remember if anyone previously posted about Magritte, but I've been looking at his surrealist work recently and reading about him. Apparently I really enjoy Belgian artists... I like the way he messes with his audiences perception of reality by juxtaposing ordinary objects in strange contexts. Each of his paintings seem to have deep psychological underpinnings and some seemingly have to do with identity issues- right up my alley.
